Complete health has always been Advent Home’s goal. Through diet, exercise, sunshine, temperance, fresh air and trust in God, students make positive and substantial lifestyle changes. Now they have a chance to share what they have learned within the local community, through Advent Home’s new Wellness Program, co-ordinated by Elsie Owens. In April, students conducted door-to-door surveys to identify community health needs in nearby Calhoun and Charleston. Healthy cooking, fitness, weight loss, stress management and diabetes were topics that community members were particularly interested in. We look forward to scheduling relevant seminars at local venues soon. On June 3, a Health Expo was also conducted at a nearby Wal-Mart. Shoppers took time from their day to monitor their weight, blood pressure and fitness level. A number of people signed up for further studies into God’s plan for complete health. Advent Home is excited to reach out to its neighbors in such a practical and life changing way. Students involved in the Wellness Program are also maturing as they develop a growing concern for others. | ||||
