Dave sits hour after hour in front of his computer screen. He doesn’t spend time with his family anymore and even eats supper in his room whenever he can. His parents are distressed about the change in their son, who used to be so loving and sociable. Parents may not be aware of how they contribute to a downward spiral in their son’s grades and behavior. Faced with the demands of raising a family, parents struggle to provide structure and spend quality time with their children. Replacing family life with unsupervised free time unknowingly sets the stage for disobedience, disrespect and defiance. At Advent Home, ‘minimum distraction’ is a powerful learning tool. Removing negative distractions creates room for each student to learn, grow and mature. We wish we could accommodate more boys in this healing environment, away from the distractions that are destroying their lives. |
