Page 3 of 4 A healthy diet is integral in making lifestyle and behavioral changes. At Advent Home, our healthy vegetarian menu greatly reduces addictive or allergenic substances, such as sugar, caffeine, food additives, animal and dairy products. This helps to stabilize mood swings and promote total health. Students with junk food addiction learn how to “eat to live”, not “live to eat”! Communication problems are often at the root of the frustration and acting out that plague our boys. Our one-to-one staff/student ratio means that counseling and group therapy can happen on a daily basis. These sessions are often lively, as boys learn healthy ways to express their emotions, confront issues, solve problems and develop character. It’s amazing to see a boy with repressed anger finally able to calmly tell others what bothers him, or to see a defiant teen admit that he was disrespectful and ask for forgiveness.
