Page 1 of 4 Look up the term ‘group home’ and you’ll probably find a definition that goes something like this: “a residence that offers housing and personal care services such as meals, supervision, and transportation.”
“Meals, supervision and transportation.” That sounds okay. But is it enough for a teenage boy who is struggling with learning and behavior problems? Will it meet all of his needs, not just his physical ones? Probably not. Far from being simply a ‘school’, Advent Home was designed as a unique group home that would bring complete healing to troubled teens. The heart of the program is Maturation Therapy®, a treatment model based on the belief that physical needs, though important, must be accompanied by emotional, social, mental and spiritual training. How does all this take place? A detailed daily schedule is vital. From the moment he wakes up at 6am, until he goes to bed at 9:15pm, each boy knows where he should be and what he should be doing. Sound rigid?
